About me

I am a principal mining engineer by trade with over a decade of experience in the mining industry related to corporate consulting, mergers & acquisitions, strategic/tactical scheduling, mine design and financial modeling. As a former senior consultant at AMC, I have worked on projects located in Australia, Russia and Africa across commodities such as gold, diamonds, iron ore, rare earths and mineral sands.I was previously employed at Micromine, a mining technology company, as Technical Presales Manager & Product Specialist. My time working in the operations & commercial teams provided the opportunity to leverage my experience and elevate Micromine's product strategy, product design/positioning, marketing & sales.I'm also an Instructor at the Ursa Major HEMA Academy, working in rotation to teach & coach students Historical European Martial Arts in a variety of weapon systems. I am well versed in teaching German Longsword, Italian Dagger, German Sword & Buckler & British Sabre. Usually this fact catches people off-guard but it does explain to them why I can present so confidently at product demos and conferences.In my down-time, I am an avid gamer (although I have built a backlog) and have a passion for good FPS and RPGs. In recent past, I have considered the possibility of writing a novel.

Atlantic Lithium - Pit Optimisation Due Diligence

Atlantic Lithium required assistance with software and expertise with open pit optimisers to conduct due diligence work for their Ewoyaa project in Ghana.Customised technical demos, training and on-demand consultation assisted the client in replicating the optimisation results and validating the cost parameters used. Additionally, a baseline for future workflows, optimisations and sensitivity analysis (pending resource model updates) were established within the span of 1-2 weeks; allowing the client to become fully self-sufficient.This consulting project resulted in a $130,000 sale and a nominal cost saving of $20,000-40,000 in consulting fees as the project work was done as part of the software evaluation process.


Hastings Technology Metals - 5YP Alastri Tactical Schedule

Hastings Technology Metals reached out to consultants to explore sequencing options in their Life of Mine plan for Yangibana Rare Earths project using software outside of Minemax.As a senior mining consultant with experience in Alastri Tactical Scheduler, project work commenced to explore a variety of production scenarios and alternative mining sequences within the first 5 years of the Life of Mine plan.Using the raw speed and capability of Alastri, the behaviors and reporting structure of the Minemax scheduler were quickly replicated and 4 schedule scenarios were produced within 2 weeks.These scenarios showed the client that their aspiration of significantly reducing costs within the first 5 years was possible and grounded with reason; allowing for successful discussions at their investor road show and a boost to their share price.


BHP Iron Ore - Yandi Cost Model Integration in Alastri Tactical Scheduler

BHP required consultants to provide labour hire to complete the closure plan for their Yandi site. In addition to completing their closure plan, they also requested an accompanying cost model to be made as the latest version of the Alastri Tactical Scheduler contained a report integration with Excel.Upon discussions regarding schedule parameters, outputs, cost inputs and reporting structure, the integrated cost model in the scheduler was complete within 3 days (with another 2 days for refinements). The key learning for BHP is that with appropriate formatting & structure, their cost model can be simplified and be more robust.The success and the reception of the integrated cost model lead to a future project commission to roll out the cost models to other sites.


Fortescue - Micromine Beyond RC Drill Schedule Proof of Concept

Fortescue approached Micromine to see if they had any software solutions to improve their drill scheduling process. Currently, mine scheduling software is focused on mining/dig schedule as the primary activity; leaving Fortescue's teams to rely on a combination of GIS software, Excel and acQuire databases to compile drill schedules.Given dummy data from the acQuire drillhole database, a proof of concept was created with finalised workflows. Leveraging the capability of Micromine Beyond, data was manually imported, processed, flagged and merged with drill strip polygons before creating wireframes to import into the scheduler.With the workflow consolidated, the manual process with rebuilt in Micromine Beyond's macro engine with substitution variables to automate the process. The macro writing process also adjusted for infrastructure and sensitive areas and exclude them from drilling.The macro process created allowed geologists to visualise & work with their database much easier compared to their GIS product and reduced the usual working for data preparation from 1 week, down to 30 seconds.
